More Information

Located one hour east of downtown Edmonton on Highway 16, The Gill Farm is a sustainable operation featuring pastured chickens, lambs, and pigs. Weather permitting, the animals are always outside; running, rooting, grazing, and browsing around in the grass to their heart's content. No antibiotics or hormones are ever used and the animals are only fed an all-natural diet, much of it grass-based.

Meat is available for direct purchase from the farm. Pork and lamb is generally sold in larger cuts (whole or half) that can be further processed into smaller cuts based on customer specifications. The meat is sold frozen and is generally available seasonally, although plans are underway to expand operations and have meat available year-round in the near future. It is suggested that customers call at least a couple weeks in advance to inquire about availability and to place an order.

Aside from sustainable meat production, The Gill Farm also features inclusive programs and services centered on outdoor activity and education in a pioneer farm environment. The programs are open to anyone, but designed with people with a disability in mind.

The goals of The Gill Farm programs and services are to:

Provide unique activity experiences for people with a disability

Provide families with activities they can participate in with family members that have a disability.

Provide quality educational experiences to school aged children that would allow a student with a disability to participate alongside other students.

Programs range from generally more physically demanding activities, such as horseback riding, archery, cross country skiing/sledging and ice skating/sledging; to less demanding outdoor activities, like wagon/sleigh rides, bird/wildlife watching, bonfires, and a petting zoo.

Other programs, like making homemade bread and ice cream and caring for the animals, provide a glimpse into the farm/pioneer experience. Special occasion or holiday events are marked by wagon/hay rides, pig roasts, and berry picking.

The Gill Farm is just starting to develop the programs and activities, so if there is something you would like to participate in or try please contact the farm directly.
