Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center
About Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center
Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center is two hours from New York City in the Catskills. Situated high on a hill, the farm offers spectacular panoramic views. This land has been farmed since 1865. Sonja Hedlund and Dick Riseling have operated the farm since 1973 as a horse-powered, organic farm featuring draft and pleasure horses, sheep and goats.Much of the farm's energy comes from renewable sources: a wind turbine, solar photo voltaic cells, solar collectors, and geothermal heat pumps. In the same vein, Dick and Sonja are also proud to host their own show in the country's only hydro-powered public radio station, WJFF. Natural lamb and goat (no hormones or additives), ready for your freezer, are sold year round as ordered. Visitors are also encouraged to experience a farm vacation, help out with animal care, enjoy fresh veggies from the garden, learn to spin yarn, and even make cheese! Contact Apple Pond for details.
