About Readmore Bed, Breakfast, & Books

Our Historic Colonial Revival is a perfect destination for your romantic getaway. Set in the village of Bellows Falls, Vermont, our home is both comfortable and elegant. Getting here is easy, but leaving may be more difficult! Start the day with a full gourmet breakfast, made the way you like it. Come stroll through our gardens, relax in our gazebo or on the front porch. Sample the afternoon tea offerings. On chilly days, cuddle up by the fire with a book, or play a game of backgammon. Each of our rooms has for sale according to theme, and we specialize in cookbooks, gardening, poetry, history, and railroads. Later, dinner at a local restaurant, and most of the rooms have fireplaces and whirlpools for your relaxation afterwards. The house is on the National Register and was named one of the ten prettiest country homes in America by the Ladies Home Journal in 1899! It was also featured on Bob Vila's Restore America and the Spring 2002 issue of Vermont Magazine. We want your stay here to be a special experience, and we provide robes, turndown service, televisions, air conditioning, CD players, and radios. Our beds are all made with a soft featherbed, lots of pillows, and in the winter our down comforters and quilts will keep you warm. Most rooms have a fireplace, and whirlpool bath. Breakfast is served from 8:30am to 9:30am. Coffee is available at 7:30am for early risers, but if you need to eat a bit earlier let us know in advance. Also, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. We can accommodate any special need from vegan to Atkins. In general, we support our local farmers and use organic foods whenever possible. The milk, eggs, butter, and cheese are almost always organic, and our maple syrup comes from our friend's sugar house just down the road. Our cereals and baking products are also organic. Even our bacon is nitrite free and comes from pigs that were raised with no antibiotics. We can direct you to sources for some of the best cheese in the world, and this is no exaggeration. Afternoon tea is served at various locations in the house, or porch, at 4 p.m. perhaps scones and our own raspberry jam.
