About S&S Homestead FarmS&S Homestead Farm on Lopez Island, Washington, is a small family farm (15 acres owned, 35 leased) where we raise our own food and food for others, in accordance with biodynamic processes. The farm is a closed system where plants and animals and people sustain each other, where a healthy environment is maintained, and where minimal off-farm inputs are used.
Sheep, cows, pigs, and chickens produce the manure that fertilizes the gardens; in turn, crops from gardens and fields are fed back to the animals. We use rotational grazing, which means that our cows and sheep are eating. Ewes and lambs in our pasture eat high protein grass from fields they fertilize as they graze. We move the animals often from pasture to pasture, so they do not suffer from parasites. Living in the same place all their lives, they have developed natural immunities and don't need medication.
S&S Homestead Farm runs a fruit and vegetable CSA program, with add-on meat and dairy subscriptions, but farm-gate sales are also available.
