Since 1989, we have worked very closely with the Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation Service and the United States Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service to improve animal laneways that the cattle travel on between pastures and the main barn, build ponds for the gravity flow animal watering systems, improve animal pastures, create diversion ditches for water run-off, and decrease animal manure run-off from the main barnyard into the fishing creek below. As a result of these practices, we have received the 1993 Chenango County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award. We also pioneered intensive rotational grazing in Chenango County in 1992.In November 1996, we began farming as a certified organic dairy farm. Our cows are pasture raised in the spring and summer, and sheltered indoors in the winter, where they are let out daily to range.
