About Maple View Farm

Maple View Farm is a family dairy farm located in Orange County, North Carolina, just northwest of Chapel Hill. It is a Holstein dairy farm. A grade "A" milk producer since 1922, Maple View Farm moved to the present location after selling a five generation dairy farm in Corinna, Maine. In 1995, the first conservation easement on the farm property was granted to the Triangle Land Conservancy to insure continuation of the farming and dairy operations. This easement designates that Maple View Farm land will be used for agricultural purposes or as open land forever. The Holsteins' diet consists of grass and a custom mix grain. The grain is grown and on the farm and consists of barley silage (with crimson clover), corn silage, grain (including brewers grain, whole corn), whole cotton seed and high quality alfalfa hay. Maple View Farm grinds its own grain on the farm. The dairy cattle never receive hormones and are only administered antibiotics if they fall ill. Cows that do receive antibiotics are removed from the herd and are not milked again until antibiotic residues are undetectable. The dairy cows are not pastured; they live in an open barn on bedding. Almost all the milk produced on the farm is processed and bottled on-site at Maple View Farm's bottling operation. Only Maple View Farm milk is bottled on-site. Milk is sold in returnable glass bottles. Products include whole milk, low-fat milk, skim milk, chocolate milk, buttermilk, and butter. Maple View Farms also operates three separate stores in the immediate area: Country Store, located on-site which sells milk, butter, and ice cream; and two ice cream stores, one located in Hillsborough on Hampton Pointe Blvd and the other in Carrboro on East Weaver Street.
