Two decades ago, Spago-trained chefs Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani traded in their high-profile jobs at two top Los Angeles restaurants for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to create the first world-class restaurant in the charming town of St. Helena, nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley. They christened the restaurant Terra, in tribute to the very earth from which all of Napa's greatest gifts arise. In Terra Cooking From the Heart of the Napa Valley, over 175 recipes from the restaurant's standing and seasonal menus showcase the chefs' sophisticated, yet eminently playful and deeply personal cuisine. Their eclectic repertoire can be loosely characterized as Southern French and Northern Italian with a Japanese sensibility--but as the products of Hiro's and Lissa's heritages, travels, memories, and individual tastes, these harmoniously balanced dishes are best described as autobiographical.
