About Poughkeepsie Farm Project

The Poughkeepsie Farm Project is a non-profit organization that works toward a just and sustainable food system in the Mid-Hudson Valley by operating a member-supported farm, providing education about food and farming, and improving access to healthy locally-grown food. PFP sponsors the City of Poughkeepsie Main Street Farmers Market to help improve access to fresh, healthy food right in the heart of the city at Mural Park near the corner of Main and Market Streets. Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons and Food Stamps (EBT) are accepted at the market. City Seeds is a new project PFP launched in 2006 in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension's Green Teen Program which involves youth ages 14-24 in growing food and seeds, participating in workshops on food and farming, and sharing their new knowledge and skills with the communities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon through community events, farmers market, involvement in local food policy issues, and community supported agriculture (CSA). PFP donates between 10 and 20% of its produce to people in need, primarily through Dutchess Outreach, Hudson River Housing, and Grace Smith House. We also provide assistance for low income members of the community to participate in the CSA though our sponsored share program.
