About High Lonesome Farm

Fred and Mary Griffen raise Animal Welfare Approved purebred Angus beef cattle on 60 acres of certified organic pasture, located in the beautiful rolling hills of south central New York. The Griffens established High Lonesome Farm in 2002 and have built a solid reputation for their high-quality, 100 percent grassfed and grass finished beef, which they sell directly from the farm in fully processed packages of wholes, halves or quarters (split halves). Fred believes the AWA label is the label his customers can trust to guarantee the animals in his care are raised according to the highest standards for animal welfare. He happily embraces the responsibility for assuring his animals thrive in a natural environment on an entirely grass and foraged based diet throughout their lives, with no sub-therapeutic antibiotics, synthetic hormones, or growth implants administered. High Lonesome Farm practices Management Intensive Grazing, where the cattle are moved frequently between different paddocks of pasture, allowing the grass to fully recover before it is grazed once again. This ensures the cattle always have access to freshest, most nutritious forages throughout the six- to eight-month grazing season. In winter, they are fed high-quality stored hay and other forages harvested from the farm. The farm is also NOFA-NY (USDA) Certified Organic, and licensed by the American Grassfed Association.
