About Potter 8 Ranch

Arnold Potter raises Animal Welfare Approved beef cattle at Potter 8 Ranch in Loyalton, CA. Potter 8 Ranch began as a journey towards healthy living after the Potter’s health care practitioner recommended grassfed beef to them as an alternative to conventional feedlot products. Research has shown that grassfed beef is richer in protein, omega 3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acids and also higher in levels of fat soluble vitamins A, C, D, E and K than beef from cows raised on grain. Arnold experimented with many factors like feeding and aging times in his pursuit to achieve the highest quality and best tasting grassfed beef. His research led the Potter’s to crossing their Angus herd with a breed of beef cattle that originates in Scotland known as Belted Galloways. Belted Galloway’s are extremely hardy in harsh winter climates, which make them suitable for the high Sierras, and also have the great ability to produce marbled beef while on a pasture-based diet. For these two reasons, the Belted Galloway’s were an excellent choice for the Potter’s grassfed operation in northwest California. Producing high quality, great-tasting beef has been a challenging but rewarding process for the Potters.
