About Glendale Shepherd

Lamb and dairy from Glendale Shepherd are Animal Welfare Approved. Product available on farm or at www.glendaleshepherd.com. Glendale Shepherd is a family owned and operated dairy farm on Whidbey Island, committed to sustainable agriculture practices and the production of fine sheep milk cheeses. Located on the lovely eastern coastline of Whidbey Island, the farm has been in the Swanson family for three generations. With forest, pasture, ponds, and meadows, the farm provides a diversity of high quality habitat for both livestock and wildlife. The Swanson family’s goals are to produce the highest quality sheep milk cheeses possible and to nurture the land, their family, and their livestock through the use of creative, sustainable farming methods. The 40 milking sheep at Glendale Shepherd are a mixture of European East Friesian and Lacaune dairy breeds crossed with a variety of North American breeds. The Swansons use only milk from the farm’s sheep to make their fine cheeses, which includes the Glendale Shepherd Island Brebis, a whole raw sheep’s milk tomme that is aged 3–6 months. In addition, the Swansons raise Animal Welfare Approved lambs, which are born between February and April each year, and are raised on their mother’s milk for the first weeks of their lives and thrive on the carefully managed pastures. Glendale Shepherd Farmstead Sheep Milk Cheeses will be fully available beginning in September 2012, with the first release of ‘Island Brebis’ at select cheese shops and farmers markets. Lamb products, including lamb chorizo, chops, and whole lambs, are available for purchase at the farm or by direct order. Visit http://glendaleshepherd.drupalgardens.com/home for more information.
