Carbondale Community Food Co-op is great for farmers and consumers alike as an outlet for local fresh foods. The member-owned store also carries a variety of organic produce from all over the country, selling what they can locally and supplementing with produce from other warehouses. Store profits are reinvested into the store to expand and improve the selections. Eventually, the co-op hopes to create a dividend program that returns profits to its member owners, who receive 5 percent off their purchases each weekend, and 10 percent off once a month for membership appreciation day. Members also receive substantial savings on bulk purchases. Working Members volunteer in the store and receive further discounts.
